[Priya's POV]
My eyes open even before the alarm rings. 5:00 AM. Old habits die hard, I guess. Back in the village, I used to wake up at this time to help Maa in the kitchen before college. For a few seconds, I lie there listening to the city breathe. I sit up slowly, pulling the blanket aside. My feet touch the cold floor, and I wrap my shawl tighter around me. The little room is still shrouded in darkness, but the early morning chill keeps me moving.
First things first, I sweep the floor, wipe down the counter, and rinse the kettle. The small chores help calm the anxious flutter in my chest. I check my outfit again, light Yellow kurta, clean leggings, and a neatly ironed dupatta.

I brush my hair and tie it in a low ponytail, then glance at my reflection. Little kajal, lip balm. My first day. My first job. I can't mess it up.
By 7:00 AM, I'm locking the door behind me with trembling hands. The folder with my documents is safely tucked in my bag. My ID proof, internship letter. The HR team had sent the address, and I memorized it last night—Electronic City Phase 1. I open Google Maps again, and after some struggling, I spot a line of auto-rickshaws parked a few lanes away. My heart beats faster.
I walk up to one auto driver, holding up my phone screen. "Infinitum Tech Solutions," I say awkwardly, pointing.
He nods, and I exhale in relief. The ride is bumpy, and the traffic gets worse the closer we get to Electronic City. Tall buildings begin to appear each glassy and intimidating. My fingers grip my bag tightly as I peer out, my dupatta fluttering a little in the wind.
Then we stop. I look up. And for a moment... I forget to breathe. A massive steel and glass structure rises before me. Elegant, powerful, with the company's name shining boldly at the entrance: Infinitum Tech Solutions Pvt. Ltd.

That's where I'm going. That's where I'll work. A lump forms in my throat.
Just six months ago, I was filling out online applications on an old desktop at the village cyber café. And now, I'm standing in front of this... this monument of dreams.
I wipe my palms on my kurta, whispering under my breath, "You've come this far, Priya. Don't back down now."
And with one deep breath, I step out of the auto.
[Authors POV]
The glass doors of Infinitum Tech Solutions Pvt. Ltd. slid open as Priya stepped inside, her eyes wide with a mix of awe and nervous energy.
The chilled air of the lobby hit her instantly, a sudden contrast from the noisy, dusty streets she'd just left behind. It is her first day and the moment felt nothing short of overwhelming.
The lobby is elegant and modern. Gleaming marble floors stretched endlessly, potted plants stood perfectly at each turn, and the walls were lined with framed awards, digital dashboards, and scrolling company achievements.
A large reception desk stood at the center, behind which a woman in uniform greeted her with a practiced, polite smile.
"Hi, I'm Priya. Today's my first day," she said softly.
"Please have a seat. Someone from HR will come for you," the receptionist replied.
Priya nodded and made her way to the nearby waiting area. She clutched her bag tightly, her eyes scanning the surroundings, her mind racing with questions. Was she dressed right? Would they be kind? Would she even be able to survive here?
Moments later, a young man in formal wear approached her.
"Priya?" he asked. She stood up quickly. "Yes."
"I'm Arjun, from the HR team. Come with me. We'll get your joining formalities done."
Priya followed him through long corridors filled with confident, fast-walking employees. Everyone looked busy. She walked quietly, her heart pounding.
Inside a small conference room, Arjun handed her a folder. "These are your onboarding forms. We'll need your ID proofs, address documents, educational certificates, do you have the photocopies?"
"Yes, sir" Priya said, already pulling them out from her folder. She had gone through everything thrice the previous night.
As Arjun looked through them, he smiled. "You're joining as a Software Development Intern in the Front-End Development team, under Product Engineering. You'll be reporting to Mr. Raghav Nair, Senior Software Engineer and your team lead."
The name stuck in her mind—Raghav Nair.
Arjun continued, "The team's currently working on a major redesign of our flagship platform. You'll assist with small front-end tasks and UI testing during your six-month internship."
Priya nodded, listening carefully even though her hands felt cold and her brain kept skipping like a faulty radio.
"Relax," Arjun added gently. "Everyone's nervous on their first day. You'll get used to it faster than you think."
After completing the paperwork and receiving her temporary ID badge, Arjun guided her toward the elevator.
"Your team sits on the fifth floor. I'll drop you there."
As the lift moved upward, Priya stared at her reflection in the mirrored panel. The elevator doors opened with a soft ding. She took a deep breath. She is ready.
As the elevator doors slid open on the fifth floor, Priya followed Arjun into a bright, open workspace filled with desks, wall-mounted monitors, and a soft hum of conversation and keyboards. This floor felt even more alive than the rest of the building.
Teams were gathered in corners, some discussing intensely over screens, others laughing quietly near coffee machines. This was where work truly happened.
Arjun led her through the corridor, past rows of workstations, until they reached a glass-walled corner space. Inside sits a tall man in his late twenties, lean and neatly dressed, with sharp features and a lanyard hanging loosely around his neck.
He is absorbed in something on his laptop, fingers moving fast, but looked up the moment he heard footsteps.
"Raghav, this is Priya Singh, the new intern in your team," Arjun said with a smile.
The man stood up immediately, offering a polite, welcoming nod.
"Hi, Priya. Welcome to the team," he said, his voice calm and professional. "I'm Raghav Nair, your reporting lead. You'll be working under me for the next few months. Have a seat."
Priya gave a shy nod and sat down on the visitor chair, placing her bag carefully beside her. She could feel her palms growing damp again.
"She's completed all the formalities," Arjun added. "The rest is up to you, Raghav."
"Thanks, Arjun," Raghav replied, and Arjun left with a quick wave.
Once it was just the two of them, Raghav leaned back slightly and looked at her with a lighter expression.
"You've moved to Bangalore recently?"
"Yes, sir just... two days ago," Priya replied softly. "I see. This place can be a little overwhelming at first. Don't worry, we'll take things slow this week."
He walked her out of his cabin and toward a small row of desks near the window where three other employees were working.
"This is your desk," he said, pointing to a clean setup with a dual monitor system and a company laptop already in place. "And that's the team."
He introduced her to her colleagues, two men and one woman each of them nodding and smiling politely.
"Everyone here is working on the front-end development of our new customer dashboard. You'll start with basic interface testing and minor bug fixes. I'll share a task list with you soon."
Raghav's tone remained kind but firm. He wasn't overly warm, but he wasn't distant either. He had the confidence of someone who knew how to lead, and yet there was no arrogance in his manner.
Priya sat down slowly at her desk, her eyes scanning the space, her mind taking it all in. She felt tiny here but not invisible.
Raghav looked at her one last time before turning to return to his Cabin.
"If you need anything, just ask. The first days are meant for learning."
As the clock ticked toward mid-morning, Priya finally settled into her desk, her fingers nervously running over the keyboard without typing anything yet. Raghav had returned to his glass-walled cabin, leaving her in the shared row of desks with her new colleagues.
After a moment of quiet glances, the girl seated beside her swiveled her chair and offered a bright smile.
"Hey! Priya, right?"
Priya turned quickly and nodded. "Yes."
"I'm Tanya. Front-end dev-, same team. This is Sudeep," she said, motioning to the guy on Priya's left, "and that lazy panda over there is Rohit."
"Oi!" Rohit said, pretending to be offended as he leaned back in his chair. "New joinee? Then I should be on my best behavior."
"I'm Priya," she repeated softly, unsure how much to say.
Sudeep nodded politely. "Welcome to the team. Don't worry, first days are always confusing."
Tanya leaned in playfully. "If you survive Raghav's expectations for a week, we'll officially declare you one of us."
Rohit chuckled. "Don't scare her off already."
Priya smiled, the ice slowly melting. She introduced herself with a little more confidence this time, told them she's from a small village near Ranchi, and that this was her first time in a big city. But she didn't tell them about how she ran away from her home or about her father. Her teammates listened without judgment. In fact, Tanya looked impressed.
"Damn, that takes guts, Coming from village to city," she said. "You'll do fine."
Just then, a slack notification popped up on Priya's new company laptop. It was from Raghav:
"Hi Priya. I've added you to the repo. Check the shared task list and pick the one labeled 'UI Bug – Search Filter Overlap'. Let me know if you need help."
She opened the shared folder and found the task, simple enough on paper, but her heart still raced. It is her first official responsibility here.
She took a deep breath and get to work. She isn't sure if she is doing it perfectly, but she was trying.
Hours passed quickly, and soon Tanya looked at the time.
"Okay, I'm starving," she announced. "Lunch?"
Sudeep and Rohit got up, stretching their arms and yawning.
Tanya looked at Priya. "Coming?"
Priya hesitated. "No, I... I brought food. I'll eat here."
"Oh ho, don't be shy," Rohit teased. "We don't bite."
Tanya nudged her shoulder. "Come on, the cafeteria is decent here. Plus, we'll introduce you to the famous ₹60 thali."
Sudeep grinned. "You can eat your lunch tomorrow. Today is for initiation."
Priya blushed. "Okay, I'll come."
The four of them walked toward the cafeteria, Tanya chatting away as Rohit added random jokes and Sudeep occasionally chimed in. Priya walked quietly beside them, her steps unsure but her heart a little lighter.
The cafeteria at Infinitum Tech Solutions buzzed with lunchtime energy. Rows of employees in formal wear sat at polished tables, laughing, eating, and talking about deadlines, features, and Friday plans. The smell of sambhar, biryani, and coffee filled the air as Priya followed Tanya, Sudeep, and Rohit to an empty table near the window.
They all picked up the ₹60 thali from the food counter, a neat tray of rice, chapati, dal, a sabzi, and curd. Priya took her seat slowly, still absorbing everything, the atmosphere, the casual banter, the effortless way her teammates blended into this world that was still so new to her.
Tanya took the first bite and moaned dramatically. "Ugh, this dal. No matter how much I complain, I always come back for more."
"Because it's cheap," Rohit said, rolling his eyes. "And you're cheap."
"I'm budget-conscious," Tanya replied smugly. "Like a responsible adult." They laughed. Priya smiled, listening quietly.
Sudeep looked at her. "So Priya, what do you think of the place so far?"
"It's big," she said simply, looking around the spacious cafeteria. "Very different from... everything I've seen before."
"You'll get used to it," Tanya assured her. "Infinitum can feel overwhelming at first, but honestly? It's one of the best places to work. And the people are mostly decent."
"Mostly," Rohit muttered with a smirk.
Tanya ignored him and leaned closer to Priya. "And wait till you see him."
Priya blinked. "Who?"
"You don't know?" Tanya looked scandalized, then glanced at the boys. "Tell her."
Sudeep chuckled. "She means Aarav. Senior Product Manager. Head of AI Solutions."
"Also known as Tanya's workplace crush for the last one month," Rohit added with a dramatic sigh.
Tanya slapped his arm. "He's not just a crush. He's actually brilliant. Handles so many projects at once, speaks in client meetings like a TED Talk speaker, and still manages to look like he walked out of a magazine shoot."
Priya lowered her eyes, chewing slowly.
"I mean," Tanya continued dreamily, "that man's focus? His leadership? I once saw him fix an entire sprint plan in five minutes. Five. Minutes. Everyone just listens when he talks. No drama, no show-off. Just pure confidence."
Sudeep raised a brow. "And cheekbones."
Tanya rolled her eyes. "Shut up, Sudeep."
Rohit leaned toward Priya. "Don't mind her. Aarav's a good guy. Bit serious, but he knows his stuff."
Tanya looked at Priya again. "You'll know when you see him. You'll feel it."
Priya smiled faintly, brushing her fingers over the rim of her stainless steel tumbler. She didn't say much just listened. The way they talked about him didn't surprise her, but it stirred a strange flutter in her chest.
They returned to the office together after lunch, their footsteps light and conversation still buzzing with inside jokes. Priya followed them silently, smiling at their ease with one another, her nervousness now softened.
Inside the office, the hum of work resumed. Priya slid into her chair and opened the task her team leader had given her, determined to finish it before the day ended.
The rest of the afternoon passes in quiet concentration. Priya keeps her head down, carefully reviewing the instructions in the task assigned by Raghav. Her fingers move slowly at first, a mix of hesitation and caution, but as time ticks by, she finds a rhythm, a flow she's never felt outside her college lab. Her screen glows with clean, thoughtful code by the time the clock shows 5:23 PM.
Raghav stops by her desk just as she finishes.
"You're done?" he asks, raising an eyebrow.
Priya nods quickly, unsure if he'll find mistakes.
He leans over, checks her work silently for a few seconds, then straightens up with a light smirk. "Good. Clean work. Keep it up."
A simple sentence but it fills her chest with something warm and electric. Her first compliment in the professional world. She blinks back the surprise and offers a small, grateful smile. "Thank you, sir."
By 6 PM, the office starts to empty. Priya stands up, stretches her tired arms, and gathers her things. Tanya, Sudeep, and Rohit wave her goodbye cheerfully.
Priya laughs softly, waving back. "Bye, everyone!"
The Bangalore sky is already tinted a soft orange as she steps out of the office gates. A small breeze brushes past her face, and for a moment, she lets herself breathe.
She starts walking toward the auto-rickshaw stand. Her steps are steady now, tired, but confident.
And just across the road, leaning casually against his car, someone noticed her. He blinks in surprise, recognition flashing in his eyes.
It's her, the girl from the mall. His lips curl into a small, involuntary smile. But he doesn't call out. Not yet.
Priya, oblivious to the gaze, continues on her path, her mind on nothing but reaching home. She doesn't know that fate is already turning its page again.
And she certainly doesn't know that she's already been noticed.
